Recreation Commission Meeting
August 3, 2003
Page Five

Questions

At this point, the Chairman turned the meeting over to the Commission members for questions.

There was general discussion about the work being done on Lorain Road. Mr. Jesse concluded
that the weather, combined with the bonding squeeze, have caused the paving companies to be
very cautious for financial reasons.

Mr. Baxter commented that the entire Park’s multi-purpose use to make the Park first class
should be considered, e.g.., swings and things for toddlers, disparaging exclusive use for ball
fields. This point was well taken among the members.

This concluded the Report of the Safety Director.

NEW BUSINESS

Revenue Report

Mr. DiSalvo stated that he was not comfortable discussing financials because the report was
literally done today. Mr. DiSalvo, Mr. Baxter and Linda Andrews met the past week regarding
this situation, currently a work in progress.

Homecoming

The Commissioner reported that the Rec Department will promote a survey for what the residents
want for Homecoming. Ms. Jones asked if the City rented or owned the tents.
Mr. Jesse understands that some are owned and some are rented. Mr. DiSalvo said that
Chris Allegra is in charge of this matter. Ms. Hayes reported that the electrical cords must be
labeled for outdoor use; otherwise, they cannot be used. (overlapping discussion among the
members). Mr. Baxter observed that the City might want to consider more parking. Tom Stein
reported to Mr. DiSalvo that there would be four port-a-potties provided for the Homecoming.

This concluded the discussion of New Business.

OLD BUSINESS

Parks Concessions

For this year, the vendors are too late. Mr. DiSalvo met with five men who are extremely
interested. Mr. Jesse suggested it might be best to follow up now because there’s too much to be
done in the Spring.
Page 5
