Recreation Commission Meeting
August 3, 2003
Page Four

REPORT BY SAFETY DIRECTOR

Homecoming

Mr. Jesse reported that, while getting ready for Homecoming, there have been a few security
issues at the Parks as far as vandalism and teenage drinking and such other minor infractions.
Ms. Jones asked if there would be something going on at Homecoming that Community Council
should know. Mr. Jesse responded that the major issues have been resolved.

Skate Park

The conflicts and tensions at the Skate Park have been reduced, with some remaining, but not as
in the past.

Security Awareness Program
Clean Up

This will be the first opportunity to get things in place around the City. What has been done with
the computerization with the City will be combined with the Recreation Department, with the goal
of having on-line registration over the Internet.

In addition, details are being made to get things spruced up and cleaned up at the Rec Center and
Parks while the City has the weather and the time.

Maneuverability Course/Tree Identification

As far as the maneuverability course, Mr. Jesse repeated that this was already addressed and that
the tree identification may be done as a Scout project through the Winter once the costs are
figured and put in place.

Ball Diamond Proposal/Pool

The Safety Director mentioned that the ball diamond proposal made sense for the City and that a
decision should be made as soon as possible.

The Rec Department is in good shape with the Health Department about the chlorine in the pool.
Page 4
