Recreation Commission Meeting
June 2, 2003

soon as the Rec Center receives them, we can send them out to bid. Ms. Jones asked about the
dirt where the horseshoe pits were located, and Mr. DiSalvo said that the horseshoe pits were re-
seeded and turned around. The dirt where the tennis courts are has been re-seeded and will be
leveled by Dave Wendell. Ms. Jones asked when the basketball courts might be completed, and
Mr. DiSalvo said that he couldn't give an exact time, just sometime this year.

Mr. Baxter then asked Mr. DiSalvo to expand on the horseshoe pits. He wanted to know who
improved them to the status they have been in the last few years. Mr. DiSalvo said that Tom
Stein and his crew improved the horseshoe pits. Mr. Baxter continued that the reason he asked is
because there is a league who plays the horseshoe pits, and it's great for them. However, if the
average person wants to play horseshoes, it's difficult to play. The pits are designed for above
average horseshoe players. First, you must take the heavy covers off and remove two tarps. It's
not a place to play horseshoes like a child or anyone else would play. It discourages anyone
besides the most experienced players from the game. If the City would like to go towards East
Park and put in another set of horseshoe pits, it would be most beneficial for recreational players.

Ice Show

Mr. DiSalvo asked if anyone attended the ice show. Mr. Jesse said the show was outstanding and
that it was really well done. The players put their hearts into it. The sound, the lights, everything
was good.

Summer Music Program

Mr. Baxter asked about the summer music program before Mr. DiSalvo concluded his report. He
wanted to know if the program was going forward. Mr. DiSalvo replied in the affirmative. Mr.
Baxter suggested more promotion for this fine program. He further suggested that Diamond 1 be
closed off while the music is playing, since it is beside the pavilion. Any foul ball going down
third base is a hazard for people sitting and watching the concert.

Ms. Jones then brought up the fact that North Olmsted Community Council was in the brochure
every year, but not this Summer's brochure, and it is an outside sponsor for the summer movie
program. No one called the Treasurer of the organization. Mr. DiSalvo will follow up on this
matter.

Mr. Gareau suggested that, as in the past, the movie in the pool be brought back. For example,
one movie was, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon," on the wall, with the kids watching from
inner tubes in the pool. The Commission agreed that this would be a good idea for follow-up.

This concluded the report of the Recreation Commissioner.
Page 3
