PROGRAM INFORMATION:

The Learn to Skate camps are wrapping up, we had 60 participants which is more than we
have had in the past. Mr. Wetmore said that softball and baseball numbers were up also.
Ms. Drenski stated that they have a new swim team coach this year and we ended up with
nd
130 swimmers where as in past years we have been under 80, they also placed 2 in the
nd
Championships. The Fall newsletter was mailed July 22 to all patrons registered with the
Recreation Center. We are now offering Pickleball, it is a social racquet sport. North
Olmsted will be the only one offering it as a public sport in Northeast Ohio. There will
be a free demonstration at the Homecoming if anyone is interested. An individual contacted
us wanting to offer a Belly Dancing class, this will be demonstrated at Homecoming as well.

REC. CENTER REPAIRS / WORK UPDATE:

Mr. Wetmore stated that the rink was shut down and a new electronic controller system was
installed that will help maintain the quality of the ice. The ice temperature will be monitored
and in turn will shut down any compressors that are not needed at that time therefore saving
wear and tear on the compressors. The Gym air conditioning has been repaired and working
properly. The Skate Park area has been cleaned up including the removal of graffiti, repairs to
the fence and the pavilions have been painted.

Ms. Drenski said the contract has been signed for the dehumidification project in the pool.
Both pools will be closed for several weeks to complete this project. The Fall Learn to Swim
session will be affected however, we will be up and running for the Swim Team season. For the
patrons who have swim passes, we will extend the expiration date to reflect the pools closing.
We are looking to partner with Westshore YMCA to help accommodate our patrons during this
transition. In the long run we will have proper water and air temperatures for the indoor pool
as well as being energy efficient.

The roof project bid is complete and came in much lower than the engineer anticipated. The
repairs will include the flat roof between the rink, tennis and pool and the main office roof as
well. The engineer from URS will help coordinate both projects since the dehumidification
system will be placed on the roof.

We are also looking into replacing the lighting within the Recreation Center to become more
energy efficient. Kim Wenger is looking to see if we can receive grant money for the project.

OPRA MEMBERSHIP:

Ms. Drenski informed the commission that she is the only one at this facility registered with
the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association. Typically, other facility members are registered
to help keep them informed as to what other Recreation centers are doing. She would like to
have the Recreation Commission members registered so they will be officially recognized
with OPRA. The commission members agreed to be registered.
