Mr. Groden stated there is a piece of legislation moving its way through Council that affects
the composition of the Parks and Recreation Commission and asked Mr. Kearney to comment
on that. Mr. Kearney explained there used to be seven members on the Commission now there
are only six due to the omission of the Community Life Services Director position. It is ordinance
2011-17 and Council will have to vote to change the Commission from seven to six members.

Mr. Kearney also stated that he has talked to the Safety Director to look into the traffic light
issue at the Recreation Center drive.

Mr. Clancy asked if the Recreation Center had a peer group such at City of Fairview, Westlake,
Brooklyn etc. that they communicate with. Ms. Drenski replied that she and Mr. Wetmore
attended an Ohio Parks and Recreation Association annual conference in Cincinnati. Also,
they are on the committee for the 2012 Education conference OPRA provides a network so
everyone can stay up to date and ask questions of other Recreation Centers on pricing etc.
Mr. Wetmore commented that we also have leagues for football, girl’s softball and youth
basketball in the surrounding communities, and twice a year there is an Eastside, Westside
roundtable that meets to discuss various Recreation topics.

Mr. Kearney asked if anything has come of the banners for around the Rink. Ms. Drenski
replied not currently and that she is waiting on a pamphlet with information that can be
handed out to people to promote it. Mr. Garrity commented that he will look into it and
will be more involved and proactive in terms of promoting the banners.

Mr. Garrity mentioned that two of the Cleveland Edges teams are going out to California
and it should be brought forth for congratulations. Ms. Medykowski commented they have
gone to California and the two teams in the competition include the Juvenile team that placed
eighth out of eleven which is the first child’s team in thirteen years to do so, and our Masters
team placed eighth out of twelve as well. North Olmsted Recreation is definitely home to
some nationally competitive teams.

Ms. Drenski announced that the tentative date for the next Recreation Commission meeting
th
will be Monday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m.

ADJOURNMENT:

With no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

_____________________________________ ___________________________________
Terry Groden, Chair Linda Andrews, Secretary

Approved: ____________________________
