COMMISSION MEMBER TOPICS CONT.:

Mr. Ruggles asked in reference to the Ohio Parks and Recreation conference that Ms. Drenski,
Chris Wetmore and Erin Figueira attended in February, if there was a common theme in terms
of issues that was discussed. Ms. Drenski commented that social media was a huge topic at the
conference. The Human Resources director has approved for us to have a facebook and twitter
account that Ms. Figueira is currently working on. Another popular topic was the background
check procedures. Aquatics supervisor Erin Figueira visited different aquatic stations to discuss
staff training and programming.

Mr. Garrity thanked Ms. Drenski on behalf of the Hockey Club for a great year and looks
forward to next year. They had a very successful year due to the Recreation Center providing
them ice.

GUEST TOPICS:
None

NEW BUSINESS:

Mr. Scarl has a question for council as to what is the Recreation Commission’s duty is.
According to the other commissions set forth by the charter they seem to have a totally
different outlook when they are doing their business then we have as a commission here.
I believe have a say with whatever goes on in those commissions. Mr. Scarl stated that he
does not see the purpose of this commission other than to meet once a month and check
numbers. Is there a charter that spells out what this commission does? Mr. Kearney said
that he will look into it but believes the commission is here to oversee what is done and to
make suggestions and move forward with them. Mr. Scarl believes that they should be able
to have a say and act on what goes on at the Recreation Center and how it is going to be
perceived by the public not just here and make recommendations. Mr. Kearney stated that
the other commissions have a say and can make recommendations however, they do not
have the power to go forward with those recommendations. Mr. Kearney said he will follow
up on this matter.
