RECREATION CENTER REPAIRS AND WORK UPDATE:

Ms. Drenski stated that the fire alarm project that began in November 2012 is still in progress
due to changes in the specifications, testing of the alarm should begin this week. Our maintenance
staff is in the process of updating the bleachers in the rink area. Mr. Garrity asked if there would
be handrails installed to the top of the bleachers. Ms. Drenski said that was a good idea and they
would look into it. Ms. Drenski also reported that they have gone out to bid for the chiller replacement
project which also includes the cooling tower. Brewer Garrett has been awarded the project and it
th
is scheduled to begin the day after the Ice Show which is May 20, and will take approximately
one month to complete. Concerning the lighting project, we are still working with the engineer to
design the specifications. The areas included for this project are the rink, pool, tennis and gymnastics
areas.

SPECIAL EVENT UPDATE:

Ms. Drenski reported the Santa Skate that took place in December went well with approximately
350 people in attendance. The Cleveland Edges performed a free standing room only show afterwards
and collected food donations for the North Olmsted Food Pantry. The Recreation Center has hosted
National Skating Day for the past eleven years to help introduce people to various types of skating.
The event includes free admission, skate rental and free lessons and we had almost 500 participants.
We also included a sled hockey tournament sponsored by the Ohio United Sled Hockey Team that
consisting of adults and children with various abilities. There were other hockey teams and skilled
skaters as well giving demonstrations. Our New Year’s Eve event went well with approximately 300
people in attendance. We had help with donations from the car dealerships and the Cleveland Edges
th
volun-teered staff to help with the event. Our third Annual Eggstravaganza will be held on March 30
at North Olmsted Park, there will be coffee, juice, pastries, bounce house, crafts for the kids and a DJ.

REVENUE AND EXPENSE:

Ms. Drenski reviewed the 2012 year end revenue and expense and stated that we exceeded our
projected revenue in all areas and our expenses came in under the budgeted amount. Our revenue
projections for 2013 are more than 2012 but will vary by department due to the closing of each area
in the building for special projects. The indoor and outdoor pools need to be painted, the rink will
get new chillers, the tennis courts will be converted to gymnastics and the gymnastics area will be
converted to fitness. In addition, each area will be updated with the new lighting project. Mr. Wetmore
commented that 2014 will show a savings for expense since the new lighting and chillers will be more
cost effective. Ms. Drenski also stated that money has been allocated to replace the playground
equipment located by the outdoor pool.
