CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
NORTH OLMSTED, 0141O
NORTH OLMSTED CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING - MAY 13, 1987
Present: Commission members: Pat,Bahas, Tom Stroh, Bob Wendt,
Secretary, Peg Hill.
This meeting was rescheduled due to Decoration Day holiday.
OLD BUSINESS
Commissioners agreed after considerable discussion on an 18 month
probationary period for entry level police officers rather than the
present 12 month period. This ruling does not effect those competing
and ranking on a police promotional examination. (change will be
reflected in civil service rules).
Evaluation of the various testing companies was discussed. Civil
service secretary will poll the group of secretaries at a luncheon she
will be attending this week to find out the names of some of the
companies they are using for the various tests.
State Board of Review form was completed and returned to the state. This
report was sent in late and a phone call was placed requesting an
extension of time be allowed to complete the form. The form needed
fill-in information from various directors, both within the city and
schools. The secretary of the commission informed the commissioners that
this report was not returned by the Safety Director; however, the
Service Director did complete both his portion and that of the Safety
Director. The Finance Director for the city completed his portion of
the form satisfactorily.
The matter of the typing test for clerks and secretaries already in the
position they were qualifying for came up for discussion. Commissioners
ruled that the two ladies, one at the schools and the other in the
office of the police department would not have to take the typing test.
They would have to pass the written test. However, the civil service
commission did rule that candidates in the future will be required to
take and pass ALL qualifying tests. (change will be reflected in civil
service rules).
