Page 2 - 5/13/87 - CIVIL SERVICE MEETING
NEW BUSINESS
Letter sent to North Olmsted Civil Service Commission from Nancy
Tylicki, clerk at Division of Ageing requesting information on grievance
procedures read and discussed by the commissioners. It was noted that
Mrs. Tylicki had not completed her probationary period and she was
advised to take her concerns to the proper hiring authority, which, in
her case, would be the mayor. It was also felt she could explore her
options with the union.
Another item discussed was public or private hearings. Commission
members agreed that a letter should be sent to the person requesting the
hearing what his/her choice would be. (change in rules will be noted in
Rules & Regulations).
Also, a letter will be forthcoming from Civil Service to all directors
involved in hiring and firing stating that employees shall be notified
of their right to appeal in communications they receive.
Civil Service commissioners agreed on a policy of "no comment" to the
media before, during and after civil service hearings. Any information
given to the news media will be directed to the office of the attorney
or the City Law Director.
The bills incurred by a.police candidate for private testing were
discussed.
Names of monitors for civil service testing were discussed. A list of
monitors was viewed and is to be kept current.
Letter from Tom Stroh discussed concerning classification for assistant
in City Transportation Departnent. Civil Service will forward a letter
to the employee assuring him of civil service status.
A disciplinary action against a firefighter was discussed and. as the
time period for requesting a hearing had lapsed commissioners asked the
secretary to contact the.employee.and inform him of same.
Commissioners again reminded the secretary to write a letter to the
police candidate, tested privately by medical doctors, to inform him
that civil service was.going to remove his'name from the list of ranked
candidates.
Meeting adjourned at 6:30 P.M.
Submitted by Peg Hill, Secretary
