CIVIL SERVICE MEETING - 5/19/88
Page #2
Hr: Wendt stated he was familiar with the word "hostler" whereas the
other commissioners felt this was a new title. He stated that the
hostlers clean busses at RTA. It is possible they do;more than that but
it was his understanding that it was primarily a laborers job. Mr.
Livingston pointed out that unlike RTA they do more in North Olmsted and
therefore should be called "service men". Air. Wendt pointed out that
the commission has no argument with the title as long as in our bus
department they are classifying the people in the correct way and the
word "service men" is what needs clarification. Mr. Stroh read from a
communication from the mayor's office thru Mr. Noble marked "revised
2/88" ... . service man is responsible to the mechanic leader. Mr.
Stroh then continued to read the above job description. Mr. Livingston
stated the one he is presenting is an up -dated job description presented
th'7---the Supervisor of Maintenance and his assistant a half hour ago for
their approval, they both read it and verified the jobs as shown are in
fact, true. Mr. Livingston was asked if there was anyone classified as
a laborer, and he answered "no". Mr. Livingston stated that much of the
menial work at the bus garage is being done by part-time help.
Mr. Wendt assured the NOMBL employees group that this question will be
studied by the commission and a decision on job titles will be reviewed
and the committee and city personnel will be advised of these findings.
A meeting will be set up with Mr. Ken Hues, General Manager of NOMBL and
Mr. Livingston of the employees committee along with Mr. Richard Noble,
City Service Director. Our regular meeting in June on the 23rd will be
targeted for this discussion.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Wendt stated that 95 candidates took the written police test.
Discussion followed on the few problems encountered during the test
time.
A meeting should be set up to review the Civil Service Rules &
Regulations. This will be the third meeting and should finish the
review.
No other further business to be considered at this meeting. Meeting
adj our;i a 5:24 P. M.
P Hil',, Secretary Robert A. Wendt, Chairman
