CIVIL SERVICE MEETING
PAGE 2
OLD BUSINESS
Ron Wilamosky said that these people get their job by being
promoted by Management and Management trains them. Ron Wilamosky
said that these jobs are not posted these people are selected and
they chose to leave the bargaining unit. He also said that these
positions have no coverage and hopefully if they are good employees
and do their job they will not be removed. Also, Bob Wendt said that
Civil Service is not involved with the Bus Department - we do not
have anything to do with them.
NEW BUSINESS
Chief Sefcek advised the Commission that the United State Supreme
Court on a New York case made the maximum age for a Police Officer
to be 28 and the justified age to be 21-28. The North Olmsted age
maximum is 35 we will look at lowering the maximum age for Police
and Fire and this age will be put into the handbook.
Chief Sefcek feels that he will have 3 more opening in January to
fill. He, therefore, asked the Commission to give him the next 10
candidates from the list of who will be taking the Physical Agility
test which is scheduled for September 7, 1991 at 9:00 am at the
North Olmsted Middle School Gym. Thirty candidates have been
notified of this date by mail.
The Fire Chief had two candidates who did not want to be hired at
this time but who wanted to stay on the certified list. The
commission decided that if a candidate declines an opportunity of
employment with the Police/Fire Department that they will be
removed from our certified list and will be notified from the Civil
Service by letter.
The Police Department needs to have a Correction Officer Test so
that the jail can be properly run. Tracy Ice will check with other
testing companies and other Civil Service Secretaries and see what
testing company they use for this kind of exam. We will need a job
description and pay scale from Chief Sefcek for this position.
Mr. Gundy wanted to know why civil service no longer gives
Inspector Tests for the Building Department. Why are these people
being appointed the position but not off of a list. Bob Wendt said
that we have not used a list since 1986 (if not longer). Bob Wendt
advised Tracy Ice to look through her files and see if she could
find anything pertaining to this matter.
