-:1
CIVIL SERVICE MEETING
OCTOBER 24, 1991
PAGE 5
was awarded that position, in our view, was the best qualified. I
was a little concerned with the position that the Commission had
taken relative to the issuance of the letters where we had employees
in clerical positions some of which had been there for a year that
were advised that they were to have to take the test on
October 30, 1991 and if they did not take the test their job would
be in jeopardy. I think Mr. Kovelan, expanded on that and
hopefully on October 29, 1991 we will be able to make some
adjustments and have some dialogue relative to that because I
certainly support and this administration supports the concept of
testing to develop qualified candidates for various positions but I
do not necessarily think that government should stop because there
isn't a qualified candidate on a eligibility list. We are willing
to work as an administration with this commission to do whatever is
necessary to create qualified eligibility lists where the commission
deems it necessary and we are willing to work with you in any way
possible to preserve the integrity of the Civil Service Commission
as well as the integrity of the Union Contracts which we are
committed to.
Henry Robinson said that he has attended many meetings with the
NAACP and different organizations around Cuyahoga County and I have
been told that they have received information from the City of North
Olmsted of openings and that they feel that North Olmsted would
welcome minorities to take the tests when tests are given.
Al Kovelan said that he does not know of any other commission that
advertises as widely as we do.
ADJOURNMENT
As there were no other issues to be brought before the Commission,
the meeting adjourned at 5:00 pm. The next Civil Service meeting is
scheduled for November 21, 1991 at 4:30 pm in the Old Town Hall
Chairma6l, Henry Robinson Secretary,'\Tracy Ice
