CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES DECEMBER 19, 1991 PAGE 2 NEW BUSINESS Entry Level Police Officer Examination will be scheduled for March 1992. Chief Sefcek would like to have the starting salary be placed in the ad. He would also like to have each candidate thumb printed before taking the exam. This will help to verify that each candidate who sent in the application is the same person who is taking the exam. Chief Sefcek will provide (2) officers at this test to provide this service. Chief Sefcek discussed about the union coverage. Immediately upon hiring, all patrolmen have union coverage. The probation period in the contract is 18 months but the Union agreed that the 18 month probation should start after the patrolman successfully completes his/her training. Chief Sefcek says that they are not sure when this will happen. Chief Sefcek has a letter to the Law Director with regard to the above. Police Officers will still be tested under Civil Service. Chief Osterhouse asked Civil Service if a firefighter who is under probation can use civil service. Henry Robinson said no. Firefighters have no protection by us until after the probation period then they have union coverage. Chief Sefcek advised Civil Service that he has (2) two more vacancies to fill in his department and that he therefore needs (1) one more name from the Certified List. Tracy Ice asked him to send Civil Service a letter requesting the (1) one name. Chief Osterhouse asked Civil Service for (4) four more names of candidates from our Certified List. Tracy Ice asked him to send Civil Service a letter requesting the names. The vision standards set by Dr. Maldonado will be put into our handbook and used for both the police and fire departments which is basically the same as we had had before. Chief Osterhouse would like to have Psychological testing done on firefighter candidates. Al Kovelan said that this will be inserted into our Rules and Regulation Handbook. Al Kovelan would like Tracy Ice to keep a record of all telephone conversations regarding Civil Service. This list will be placed in our minutes file but will not be distributed with the minutes.
