BEFORE OUR MEETING MAYOR BOYLE.SWORN IN LOIS ZOLAR AS THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION'S NEWEST COMMISSIONER. SHE REPLACES HENRY ROBINSON AND HER TERMS EXPIRES ON DECEMBER 31, 1995. OLD BUSINESS The Civil Service Commission received a letter from Mike Gareau with regards to Marella Varanese's service credit. In his letter it stated that this is not a civil service issue and that civil service can take no action. Jim Hines agreed with Mike Gareau. Since there is no more money in the Civil Service.budget line items for other and testing,.the commission sent a letter to Jim Burns asking that our budget be increased to covet out standing bills along with a Chief Building Inspector Test and Dispatcher test. We asked that the testing line item be increased an additional $17,000 and the other line item to be increased an additional $1,400. Civil Service is waiting to hear if the new increases have been approved. The Commission decided that every two years a test will be given for Secretarial II, Entry Level Fire Fighter, Entry Level Police and Correction Officers. These tests will be given regardless if there are openings or not. All other tests will be given on an as needed basis. The Commission also decided that all departments must send the Commission a job description when there is an opening which civil service may need to test for. Once the secretary has received the job description then she will mail them to the commissioners for their review. The commissioners will then decide whether they feel this is a testable.position. If it is, then the commission will start planning to administer a test. If the position is not a testable position, then the commission will explain to the Department Head why it's not a testable position in a memo. A letter was sent to all Department Heads on June 3, 1993 stating the same.
