CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 15, 1993
PAGE 2
OLD BUSINESS
Jean Podskalan mentioned that the written portion to the secretarial
test had no grammar, spelling etc. on it. Shouldn't this part of the
test be voided as well? Jim Hines said that even though this test
wasn't the type of test we would have preferred to give, that the test
was still adequate for the positions it covered. We have been
reviewing other testing company's sample tests so that the next
written test we give will have spelling, grammar etc.
Mr. Wilamosky would like to see sample tests in the future. Tracy Ice
mentioned that reviewing sample tests was not something that had
always been done. We used to give the same test that was given in the
past. The last few years we have been reviewing tests for new
positions that the commission felt we should test for. The Commission
does not have a problem with Mr. Gundy or R. Wilamosky reviewing
future tests prior to the exam.
Mike Gareau was asked by the commission to send them the amendment to
the handbook with regard to changing the probation period from 2 years
to 6 months.
The Central Dispatching test is scheduled for January 17, 1994 at the
N. Olmsted Community Cabin at 7:00 pm. IPMA will be the testing
company who will furnish the test and Glenn Marks will administer the
test. We will have each candidate thumb printed before taking this
exam. The ads will run in the newspapers on December 5th and 9th.
Chief Building Inspector test will probably be given in the first part
of next year, per Mr. Gundy.
Lewis Robinson's case is still on hold.
NEW BUSINESS
Chief Sefcek sent the commission two candidates from the Police
eligibility list that he would like the commission to remove due to
their background investigation. The Commission reviewed the
information that was sent and agreed to remove them from the list.
Letters went out to these candidates and to the Chief advising them of
the above on November 16, 1993.
Two candidates who took the secretarial test and who moved down in
rank had sent the commission letters. The Commission answered their
letters on November 16, 1993.
