CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES
MARCH 20, 1995
PAGE 3
NEW BUSINESS
Jackie also brought up that in the December 1994 meeting minutes of
the Civil Service Commission that Carolyn said that a no error limit
should be put on the typing test and that Mr. Conway and herself just
wanted to be sure that the person that they hire for the Building
Department Secretarial position can type.
At this time, Jackie and her family have no medical insurance. She
was told that she could continue_ to receive medical insurance if she
paid approximately $600 a month. The Smith's have one income now and
a child. One reason Jackie took this.job was because she would be
closer to home.
Capt. Ruple said that Jackie was doing an excellent job in the Police
Department.
The Commission discussed Jackie's situation. They felt that she
should be hired in the Building Department, that is if the position is
going to be filled.
Paul Grayshaw., of ASS.CME, also attended our meeting. He indicated
that he thought that Mrs. Smith would be transferred to the position
in the Building Department. .The union thought that this would be a
good lateral move, they thought it was odd that Jackie did not get
this job. Paul also said that the union has in their contract that if
an employee is awarded a job, that they be given a reasonable amount
of time (not to exceed 30 days) to show that they can do that job. If
not, the City can return the employee 'to their previous job. Paul
filed a grievance on behalf of the union but felt that Civil Service
had a certain obligation since Jackie was hired off of the eligibility
list to pursue this situation. The grievance is still pending.
At this point, .Jim Hines wrote a letter to Ron Wilamosky and Carolyn
Kasler and asked that they respond to his letter by March 25th. The
Commission decided to place Jackie's name back on our current
eligibility list.
ADJOURNMENT
As there were no other issues to be brought before the Commission, the
meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm. Our next Civil Service Meeting is
scheduled for MONDAY, APRIL 17, 1995 at 7:00 pm at TOWN HALL.
Chairman, Jim Hines.
aLE-5A (L9
Secretary, T cy Ice
