Fj CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES APRIL 15, 1996 PAGE 2 OLD BUSINESS Should credit be added to the fire-fighters promotional scores after written or after oral exam.? After some discussion, the Commission agreed that we will give the extra credit after the conclusion of both the written and oral exams. This is how it has been done in the past for Police. The Safety Director agreed. Carolyn Kasler wrote a letter to the Commission and basically said that she didn't feel that we should promote based on seniority and that it's a way younger candidates can get ahead. Chief Osterhouse said that the Fire Department is not the same as the Police Department. Experience for a fire fighter is very important. This person is supervising many people at a fire. PROMOTIONAL FIRE EXAMS. Lieutenant Exam. THE TOP 6 SCORERS FROM THE LIEUTENANT'S WRITTEN EXAM. WILL GO ON TO THE ORAL ASSESSMENT CENTER ALONG WITH ANYONE SCORING WITHIN 1% POINT OF THE 6th POSITION. A RANDOM DRAWING OF WHAT TIME THE CANDIDATES WILL TAKE THEIR ORAL PORTION OF THE TEST WILL BE DONE AFTER THE WRITTEN RESULTS ARE SENT OUT. The ORAL EXAM. will be given on May 11, 1996 at the new fire station. This test will be worth 30%. Captain Exam. The WRITTEN EXAM. will be given on April 20, 1996 at the new fire station. This test will be worth 40% and start at 9:00 am. A RANDOM DRAWING OF WHAT TIME THE CANDIDATES WILL.TAKE THEIR ORAL PORTION OF THE TEST WILL BE DONE SOMETIME AT THE WRITTEN EXAM. The ORAL EXAM. will, be given on April 27, 1996 at the new fire station. This test is worth 60%. Carolyn Kasler asked if the location for the promotional written exam. will be quite in the conference room and uninterrupted. Chief Osterhouse said yes and the speakers will be disconnected etc.
