ROLL CALL: <br />Q <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />5200 Dover Center Road • North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 <br />Phone: 777-8000 Ext. 232 <br />CITY OF NOR-THUCKSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />CORRECTED AUNUTES <br />-MARCH 24, 1997 <br />THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION OF MARCH 24, 1997 <br />WILL NOW COMMENCE.... PRESENT ARE: <br />Chairman Cummings; Commissioner Zolar; Commissioner Benjamin; Fire Chief Osterhouse; Police <br />Chief Viola; and Personnel DirectorWilamosky <br />DISPOSITION OF AIINUTES. <br />E. Cummings motioned to approve the minutes of February 17, 1997, seconded by S. Benjamin and <br />unanimously approved:' <br />REPORTS. <br />A) The Fire Department is in the process of hirin from the certified list for firefighter. Two <br />candidates have been ren oyed. from the'ehg bihty list. Chief Osterhouse was certified the top three <br />names to fill this vacancy. "Chief Osterhouse shall advise which candidate was chosen and when he <br />willbegun employment The Chief confirmed there would not be t a vacancy, untilahe end of April. <br />B) The written portion oft6 Police. Officer's examination is scheduled for April 23 at`7:30 p.m. in <br />the community cabin Allmonitors testers, and police officers -will be expected to arrive at 7:15 <br />P.m. to help sign in the candidates' an&thumb print thein,' -`,114 agility' <br />test date has not been <br />scheduled yet as't has been increasingly difficult to schedule a clate.that is suitable for both the <br />testing comp=any and the ;schools. Hopefully by the date of the meeting something.. will be worked <br />out. The secretary: advised the agility test is tentatively scheduled ibi. Saturday, June 21, 1997 <br />(this date ns'subjedito the approval of the school), St Johns & West Shore will test six candidates <br />every 45 minutes and as determined at the Februarymeeting the 'top X50 candidates will be tested. <br />C) There is an opening m the police department for the position of Corrections Officer. Chief Viola <br />has been certified the top, threenames to fill this vacancy. - One of the candidates requested <br />removal and the Chief was cettified„a replacement name. The chief, asked if the commission has <br />received a copy of his memo: advising that a candidate failed the:background check. The secretary <br />noted she has not yet received this memo Chief Viola believed this person should be removed <br />based on the fact the candidate in question was arrested and convicted of a shop lifting incident in <br />September of 1996. It was noted the examination was administered in June of 1995. The Chief <br />did not believe it would be appropriate for a known thief to handle the property. The commission <br />agreed to remove this person from the list for failing the background investigation. <br />E. Cummings motioned to remove the candidate in question from the eligibility list for failing the <br />background investigation. The motion was seconded by S. Benjamin and unanimously approved. <br />Chief Viola agreed to send the commission a memo confirming the reasons why this candidate <br />should be removed. Upon receipt of this memo the candidate in question shall be sent a letter <br />advising of the commissions decision, based on the results of the background investigation. <br />
