E. Cummings moved to utilize the company that has the most reasonable price. The motion was seconded
by L. Zolar and unanimously approvers.
Ms. Cornish stated the scores will now need to be set for the written test and the agility test. Mrs. Zolar
stated I would like to point out a correction that needs to be made in the sample copy of the application, the
testing date is written up differently in the agenda then what it is in the application packet. Mrs. Rote stated
the correct date is Thursday, May 28, 1998 and the mistake would be corrected. Ms. Cornish stated that a
special meeting would also need to be set up to announce the results of the police sergeants promotions test
as they are not available at this time. Mr. Cummings stated lets set the passing scores for fire fighters test
first. Ms. Cornish stated last years written passing scores were set at 70% on written, and 7 out of 8 for
agility, but this year one of the requirements have been removed so it is suggested that 6 out of 7 be the
passing score. Mr. Cummings stated that would be good, does anyone have any suggestions for the
advertisements that will go out. None were given.
E. Cummings motioned to except the advertisement and application packet as presented with the following
modifications the written test passing score be set at 70%, and the passing score for the agility portion of
the test be set at passing 6 out of 7 events by successfully completing the minimum requirements (25 or
more push-ups in one minute; Stair -climb with rescue equipment in 55 seconds or less; 165 lb. dummy drag
12 seconds or less; 95 lb. bag carry 7.5 seconds or less; joist walk 40 seconds or less; Ladder operation 50
seconds or less; One half mile shuttle run 5 minutes or less). The motion was seconded by J. Thomay and
unanimously approved.
D) The candidate removed from the police officer's eligibility list last month due to failure to pass the
background investigation has requested a hearing before the Civil Service Commission pertaining to his
removal from the eligibility list. The Civil Service Commission must set up a hearing date for candidate
Michael Zukowski. Mr. Cummings stated this meeting will have to only deal with the Zukowski matter and
nothing else. Ms. Cornish stated I need to arrange for the law department to have a representative present,
as well as the safety department, and I have to hire a court reporter, so we will need some time to make sure
everyone can be present. Mr. Cummings stated we want to tryto oblige Mr. Zukowski and have the
meeting on a Monday or Tuesday, but it will have to be set for some time in April as there is not enough
time to set something up for March. Ms. Cornish stated all board members will have to be present for this
meeting so make sure the day you pick is good for all board members. Mrs. Rote stated you can schedule
the meeting for any time it fits all of your schedules. Mr. Thomay stated it is best to give plenty of room so
everyone can be notified and make it. Ms. Cornish suggested that the hearing be scheduled for the April 20,
98 at the regular scheduled meeting date and make the regular meeting set for April 27, 98. Mr. Cummings
stated make sure that you put in Mr. Zukowski's letter that we will be an open hearing with a court reporter.
Ms. Cornish stated I will also make sure that he knows that he has a right to have an attorney present.
J. Thomay motioned to hold the Zukowski hearing on April 20, 1998 at 7:00 P.M., and that we have the
regular meeting for the month of April be held on the following Monday on April 27, 1998. The motion was
seconded by E. Cummings, and unanimously approved.
X. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 P.M.
E. Cummings, Chairman f% / D. Rote, Assistant Clerk of Commissions
