fryer=.
FROM:
SUBJECT:
COPY TO:
NORTH OLMSTED POLICE DEPARTMENT
DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION
Chief George Ruple
Entry Level Police Exam
Date: October 8, 1998 y N
TO: Civil Service Commission
The last test given for entry level appointment to the police department required the
applicant to have Ohio Peace Officer Training Council Certification as a Police Officer to take the
test. This requirement resulted in excessive paperwork for the secretary and confusion as to what
constituted certification. This requirement also eliminated many potentially good candidates from
taking the test.
I feel that Police Certification is a valuable addition for a candidate but should not be a
requirement to take the test. I am requesting that the Commission consider removing this
requirement as outlined on page 6, section 7, subsection E of the manual. In addition I am
requesting that the commission consider giving extra credit for Certification in the amount of 3
points under section 2, page 13 of the manual.
George Ruple
Chief of Police
