J. Thomay motioned to set the minimum passing score on the physical agility test to 27 out of a
possible 54 points, seconded by L. Zolar and unanimously approved.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
A) The Commissioners will need to make a motion on where the agility test will be
administered. The recommended facility is the North Olmsted Nigh School gym. The rental fee is
$40.99 per hour and the estimated rental time is 3 hours. The total rental fee will be $122.97.
E. Cummings motioned to accept the North Olmsted High School gym as the testing facility at this
time and accept the rental fee as stated, seconded by J. Thomay and unanimously approved.
B) The Commissioners will need to decide if they want to change recommended reading list for the
Lieutenants promotional exam. On January 15, 1999 Chief Lee from Fire Chiefs Association
contacted the Civil Service office indicating he received Building Construction Related to the Fire
Service (IFSTA), 2nd. Edition and Fire Department Company Officer (ICMA), 3rd Edition. Chief
Lee would like to know if the Commissioners would like to update to the newer additions.
Clerk O'Connell mentioned the Civil Service Office had received calls from the fire department
indicating they were having a hard time purchasing books and if they had already purchased any of
the books would they be able to return those books or exchange them for the newer editions. The
Clerk informed the commissioners that she had called bookstores to see if they had enough of the old
books and new books in stock for the candidates to purchase and what their return policy was. The
return policy varied, one bookstore would allow, returns only if they were still in the sealed
cellophane, and only if the books were in 100% resalable condition, also if the purchase date didn't
exceed 2 weeks. Mr. Thomay indicated that since we had sent the candidates a recommended
reading list we could not change the recommended reading list by adding the newer additions. Mr.
Cummings strongly suggested the next time we give a recommended reading list we make sure we
have the latest editions of the books listed. Mr. Jenkins indicated since we didn't have definite
information as to what the difference was between the two editions, it would be hard to speculate as
to how different they were.
E. Cummings motioned to remain with the recommended reading list as follows: Building
Construction Related to the Fire Service (IFSTA), 1st. Edition and Fire Department Company
Officer (ICMA), 2nd Edition. IN THE FRAMING OF THE MOTION: Mr. Cummings stated in
the future, the recommended reading list assigned for the exam be the most current editions.
X ADJOURNMENT: E. Cummings moved to adjourn the meeting.
Meeting Adjourned at, 8:OOP.M.
Ernest R. Cummings, Chairman
2
O'Connell Assistant
of Commissions
