CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES —SEPTEMBER 27, 1999 <br />7:00 PM <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Cummings called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. <br />PRESENT: Chairman, E. Cummings, Board member, J. Thomay and L. Zolar. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Fire Chief, Bak, Civil Service Secretary, D. Rote,Fire Fighter, Robertson <br />and Mrs. Robertson. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The minutes of August 23 & 27, 1999 Civil Service meetings <br />have been submitted for approval. <br />E. Cummings motioned to approve the Civil Service minutes dated August 23 & 27 1999 as <br />written. The motion was seconded by J. Thomay and unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were 13 correspondences sent and received. <br />E. Cummings motioned to accept the correspondences as submitted. The motion was <br />seconded by L. Zolar and unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1). On September 14, 1999 the clerk received a letter from Firefighter Hehnen requesting the <br />testing company re -score his test. The Law Department was asked for a legal opinion, <br />which is enclosed. The Commissioners will need to make a ruling on Fire Fighter <br />Hehnen's request. <br />Mr. Thomay indicated that he was not sure that he agreed with the Law Department as to <br />Mr. Hehnen's request being a protest. The clerk reviewed her conversations with Fire <br />Fighter Hehnen. She indicated that Fire Fighter Hehnen questioned if she had printed the <br />scores of the written test right. Chief, Bak was allowed to review the test results as well <br />as the signature card Fire Fighter Hehnen signed. Mr. Thomay commented that the letter <br />from Mr. Hehnen was dated September 10, 1999, and the deadline for protests was <br />August 13, 1999. He asked the clerk if she thought there might have been a mistake <br />made. The clerk indicated that she did not feel that there were any mistakes made. Mr. <br />Cummings indicated that if the testing company were asked to recheck this test, then all <br />the tests would need to be rechecked. There was. no specific test question, he just feels he <br />should have had a better grade in general. No further comments were made. <br />E. Cummings motioned to not accept Fire The Fighter ot on ewasn's request seconded tohave <br />Le Zolar testing <br />and <br />company re -score the written test. <br />unanimously approved. Motion Carried. <br />2). The Ohio Fire Chiefs Association was hired to administer the Lieutenants promotional <br />exam. There were 15 Fire Fighters who participated in the Lieutenants written exam and <br />3 candidates that passed the written exam. The Lieutenants Oral Assessment was held <br />September 25, 1999. The Commissioners need to certify the results of the Lieutenants <br />Oral Assessment. <br />
