CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES —February 21, 2000 <br />7:00 PM <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />PRESENT: Board Members J. Thomay and L. Zolar. <br />ABSENT: P. Farrell <br />ALSO PRESENT: Asst. Civil Service Secretary K. Fallon. <br />Chairman Thomay called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes of January 17, 2000 <br />have been submitted for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the minutes as written. The motion was seconded <br />by L. Zolar and unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were 13 correspondences sent and received. Mr. Thomay questioned if the <br />letter received from Nicholas Collins had been responded to by the Civil Service <br />Office or by the Fire Chief. He suggested that the Civil Service Office should <br />respond. Iri order to become a firefighter, the candidate has to be able to pass our <br />entry level, agility, and written exams. He indicated that the last firefighter test <br />had been given two years ago. Mr. Thomay questioned when the next firefighter <br />entry level test would be given. The clerk responded after February of 2001. Mr. <br />Thomay then questioned if the memo dated 2-04 from the fire department <br />regarding fire fighter promotions were suggestions for the Civil Service Handbook <br />review. The clerk indicated she would check into the memo. Ms. Zolar and Mr. <br />Thomay indicated the memo looked to be suggestions. Ms. Zolar questioned <br />whether the fire department was sent a letter requesting this information from the <br />Civil Service Secretary. The clerk responded "no". Mr. Thomay questioned <br />whether the February ls` memo's and the February 3rd memo were regarding the <br />need for a Secretary exam. He questioned whether the test had been given yet. <br />The clerk responded "no" that the Civil Service Secretary was planning on a test in <br />late spring. W. Thomay questioned if the Civil Service Secretaries had the <br />software for this test. The clerk responded "yes" and they had been working with <br />it. The clerk indicated the test was used previously for individual hires. Mr. <br />Thomay indicated that the test needs to be given before late spring. The clerk <br />indicated she would discuss the test with the Civil Service Secretary. W. <br />Thomay indicated the test needs to be given a couple times a year since the <br />candidates will continue searching for a job after taking the test. W. Thomay <br />questioned if the list he was given for the agility test was the whole list. The clerk <br />indicated "yes" and that a date needed to be set for a preparation time period for <br />
