I <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES —MAY 22, 2000 <br />7:00 PM <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />PRESENT: Chairman J. Thomay and Board member L. Zolar. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Fire Chief Ed Bak and Asst. Civil Service Secretary K. Fallon <br />ABSENT: Board Member P. Farrell <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes of April 17, 2000 have <br />been submitted for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the minutes of April 17, 2000 meeting as written. <br />Motioned to approve the minutes of the April 17, 2000 meeting as written. The <br />motion was seconded by L. Zolar and unanimously approved. Motion Carried. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were 17 correspondences sent and received. <br />Thomay indicated that the City is hiring too much provisional hire. He questions <br />whether the tests should be given regarding Correction Officers, Building <br />Inspectors, and Secretarial. Ms. Zolar concurs with this observation. Mr. <br />Thomay questioned if the Correction Officers position arrived out of promotions <br />of an existing employee or is there a list available. The Clerk indicated that there <br />was a list, but it is expired for both the Correction Officers and the Building <br />Inspector. She also indicated that the Civil Service Secretary is in the process of <br />organizing the secretarial exam. No further comments were made regarding the <br />correspondences. <br />J. Thomay motioned to accept the correspondences as submitted. The motion was <br />seconded by L. Zolar and unanimously approved. Motion Carried. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: no items <br />IV. NEW BUSINESS: <br />The Board needs to review and approve a testing company and testing date for the <br />Firefighter entry level exam. <br />Mr. Thomay reviewed the three testing organizations for consideration of the <br />entry level firefighter written exam. He reviewed that McCann was the most <br />expensive based on 200 candidates. The Clerk reviewed that the price would be <br />decreased if less than 200 candidates take the exam since there is a refund of <br />$13.00 per unused packet. Mr. Thomay indicated that McCann had the most <br />complete test. Chief Bak questioned if the test given by McCann was a general <br />
