addition, entry-level firefighter applicants may receive additional educational <br />point credit in accordance with the following scale: <br />1. Four year college degree in Fire Science equals three (3) points, <br />2. Four year college degree in any field equals two (2) points, <br />3. Two year college degree in Fire Science equals two (2) points, and <br />4. Any two-year college degree equals one (1) point. <br />All entry level fire department applicants requesting any such educational extra <br />point credits shall be required to submit a copy of their diploma of graduation and <br />a certified copy of college transcripts along with the application for entry level <br />examination. Such educational credit shall not be granted to persons failing to <br />comply with this requirement. <br />Mr. Thomay discussed the decision from the Law Department regarding the <br />proposed new writing of Rule II, Section 7, and paragraph D. The clerk indicated <br />that the change needed to be ruled upon in light of the upcoming entry-level <br />firefighter exam. The Board was in agreement. The new writing would be as <br />follows: "Applicants for examination of entry level appointment to the fire <br />department as a Firefighter/Paramedic MUST either be a student in an Ohio State <br />Certified Paramedic Program or have paramedic certification BEFORE the date of <br />the entry-level examination. The required certification must be in accordance <br />with the level of qualifications mandated by the North Olmsted Fire Department. <br />A copy of the applicants State Paramedic Certificate or standing in an Ohio State <br />Certified Paramedic Program MUST be received by the Commission before the <br />date of the examination. A copy of the applicants current State EMT -Paramedic <br />Certification shall be delivered to the Commission in order to be considered an <br />eligible candidate for the oral interview process to fill any open <br />Firefighter/Paramedic positions. Applicant Firefighter/Paramedic must have <br />maintained appropriate continuing education training hours as mandated by the <br />State of Ohio for EMT -Paramedic Certification. A copy of our continuing <br />education MUST be presented to the Fire Chief during the interview process. <br />Any training NOT completed shall be done by the applicant at his/her expense to <br />meet the state requirements. Chief Bak indicated that the Union had been <br />discussing these as well. At this time, Mr. Thomay indicated the Board would <br />delay until the next meeting to discuss the other issues from the April 17th <br />meeting or if need be to call special meetings to get caught up. <br />J. Thomay motioned to amend Rule H, Section 7 paragraph D to read as written <br />above. The motion was seconded by L. Zolar and unanimously approved. <br />Motion Carried. <br />VI.
