Chief Bak's question is if someone retires, and the Fire Department is in the
process of interviewing, does this mean that they can not hire from this list. Mr.
Thomay indicated that the Law Department had been asked for their opinion on
other rules, but he was not sure of this one. He then asked the Secretary to find
out if a ruling was ever received regarding Rule 1, Section C. At this time, Mr.
Thomay is hesitant going over material Mr. Farrell was checking into, so the
Board decided to discuss vacation times and dates. He reviewed the Fire Fighter
Entry Level Test in August and questioned if Ms. Zolar had a preference. Ms.
Zolar indicated she had no preference at this time. Mr. Thomay suggested not
take a summer break, but schedule the July meeting for discussion of the Civil
Service Handbook alone. Ms. Zolar indicated she is in agreement with Mr.
Thomay. At 7:35pm, Mr. Farrell arrived. At this time, Mr. Thomay reviewed the
agenda for the July Civil Service meeting.
Chief Bak questioned if the Fire Fighter Agility test could be moved up to
September instead of waiting until the end of October due to the fact that there
has been one retirement with two more in as late as February. The Secretary
indicated she would discuss this with Ms. Rote.
At this time, Mr. Farrell indicated that he would send all the Board Members and
the Secretary a packet on the material he was looking into.
VI.
