CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />- MINUTES — JULY 17, 2000 <br />7:30 PM <br />DUE TO A MECHANICAL ERROR THE MINUTES OF JULY 17, 2000 ARE WRITTEN <br />FROM THE CLERKS NOTES" <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman, Thomay called the meeting to order at 7:30pm. <br />PRESENT: Chairman, J. Thomay, Board members, L. Zolar and P. Farrell. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Fire Chief, Klecan and Clerk of Commissions D. Rote. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes dated June 19, 2000 has been submitted <br />for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the June 19, 2000 minutes as submitted. The motion was seconded <br />by, P. Farrell and unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />A) There were 5 correspondences received and I sent. <br />Mr. Thomay instructed the clerk to find out if the commission could interview different companies <br />to administer the entry-level physicals or if the commission had to use the Cities medical providers. <br />The board members reviewed a Newsletter that was received from the State Personnel Board of <br />Review Board. Mr. Thomay instructed the clerk to fill out the questioner as the board indicated. <br />J. Thomay motioned to accept the correspondences sent and received as submitted. The motion was <br />seconded by P. Farrell and unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: No items. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />A) The Commission needs to make a ruling on the following applications: <br />Chairman Thomay announced that he would like to have each of the applicants present give <br />their names. The following applicants were present; Jason Meek, Kevin Scott, Scott Brumagin, <br />David A. Swope, Daniel J. Rogers, Michael Mohnickey, and Anthony V. Gandolfi. Mr. <br />Thomay commented that he would read the criteria from the application. 1. All applicants must <br />either be a student in an Ohio State Certified Paramedic Program or have paramedic <br />certification before the date of the entry -level examination. The required certification must be <br />in accordance with the level of qualifications mandated by the North Olmsted Fire Department. <br />A copy of the current certification or standing in an Ohio State Certified Paramedic program <br />must be received by the Commission before the date of the examination. He indicated that the <br />main criterion was the word student and standing. The definition of the word student is; 1. to <br />study- scholar, learner; esp: - one who attends a school 2. One who studies: an attentive and <br />systematic observer. The word standing is; 2. b position or condition in society or in a <br />profession; esp: good reputation c: position relative to a standard of achievement or to <br />
