2. The Commissioners need to address Fireman Boatman's e-mail regarding promotions in Rule III,
section 8, letter (f).
Fire Chief Bak suggested that he believed the firemen would like to have the extra credit for
efficiency broken down in the handbook the same way it is for the police in Rule III section 8
(e). The clerk suggested that as the board does not calculate the points nor do they do the
review; they could not possibly give an explanation. She believed that the way Rule III section 8
(f) is written comes from the Fire Chief s recommendation. Mr. Farrell suggested that the board
just inform Mr. Boatman that they are in the process of reviewing the handbook this year and his
request would be looked at. Furthermore, if he or any other union member has suggestions as
to how they would like to see the rule written, they are welcomed to submit them to the
Commission for review. Mr. Thomay indicated that the board had reviewed this rule with the
Fire Chief earlier in the year and the only thing the Fire Chief wanted changed is the point scale,
which the board agreed to do. He suggested that Mr. Boatman should be thanked for his
question and invited to the September meeting when the board will discuss Rule III section 8 (f).
Mr. Farrell directed the clerk to send Mr. Boatman a letter thanking him for his question and
inviting him to the September meeting to submit a suggestion to the Commission.
3. Commissioners need to address possible changes to Rule II section 1, (d) and Rule VI section 3
(b) (c) and (e).
Chairman Thomay indicated that handbook changes would be tabled until the September 2001
meeting.
X ADJOURNMENT:
P.
