CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES — OCTOBER 22, 2002 <br />COUNCIL'S CONFERENCE ROOM <br />7:00 PM <br />NOTE: DUE TO A MECHANICAL ERROR THESE MINUTES ARE FROM THE <br />SECRETAR Y'S NOTES <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman, J. Thomay called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairman, J. Thomay and Board Member R. Giesser. <br />ALSO PRESENT; Law Director, J. Dubelko, Safety Director, R. JESSE and Clerk of Commissions, <br />D. Rote. <br />ABSENT; Board Member Patricia Martin. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes dated August 19, 2002 have been <br />submitted for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the Civil Service minutes dated August 19, 2002 as written. R. <br />Giesser seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: There were 23 pieces of correspondence received and 104 pieces of correspondence <br />sent out. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the correspondences sent and received as submitted. R. Giesser <br />seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />Chairman Thomay indicated that <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Commissioner's need to address Safety Director Jesse's letter indicating Fire Chief Bak retired <br />October 11, 2002. Therefore, there is now an opening for a North Olmsted Fire Chief. <br />Mr. Thomay and Mrs. Giesser discussed the time frame and the steps needed to make arrangements <br />for the Fire Chief s examination. There was discussion of possibly having 90 days instead of 60 <br />days to administer an exam. <br />2. Commissioners need to review information pertaining to possible testing companies for <br />administering a Fire Chief s promotional examination. <br />Mr. Thomay and Mrs. Giesser discussed their thoughts on the information received from the 4 <br />different testing companies. Both Mr. Thomay and Mrs. Giesser felt the two best companies to look <br />at would be Ramsey and Associates and Clancy and Associates as their tests addressed more <br />managerial issues, which is what the Safety Director is looking for. After reviewing the two <br />companies attributes the commissioners decided to motion for Ramsey & Associates. <br />J. Thomay motioned to hire Ramsey & Associates as the testing company to administer the Fire <br />Chief s examination. R. Giesser seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. Motion <br />Carried. <br />
