CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE METING <br />MINUTES — APRIL 21, 2003 <br />COUNCIL'S CAUCUS ROOM <br />7:00 PM <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />PRESENT: Chairman J. Thomay and Board member R. Giesser. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Safety Director R. Jesse, Fire Chief T. Klecan, and Civil Service Secretary D. <br />Rote. <br />ABSENT: Board member P. Martin. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated January 13, 2003 have been submitted for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the January 13, 2003 minutes as written. R. Giesser seconded <br />the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were (20) pieces of correspondence received and (15) pieces of correspondence sent out. <br />J. Thomay motioned to accept the correspondences as noted. R. Giesser seconded the motion, <br />which was unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />The Commissioners need to address revising the Civil Service Handbook. <br />J. Thomay motioned to table discussions regarding possible changes to the Civil Service <br />Handbook, as not all members were present. R. Giesser seconded the motion, which was <br />unanimously approved. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />1. Commissioners need to motion on the release of the Annual State of Ohio Municipal Civil Service <br />Report. <br />Mr. Thomay indicated that he reviewed the report. Mrs. Rote indicated that all those listed in the <br />report as being laid off have since been rehired. Mrs. Rote reviewed that the commission requested <br />$70,000.00 for the 2003 budget for tests, but was only granted $11,125.00. The Civil Service will <br />not have enough funds to administer the Fire Lieutenants, Fire entry-level, and Police entry-level <br />test needed this year. The commission will need to request additional funds. Fire Chief Klecan <br />reviewed that the fire department is down an Assistant Fire Chief and two Fire Fighters currently. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the Annual State Report as written. R. Giesser seconded the <br />motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />2. Commissioners need to address Safety Director Jesse's letter indicating an opening in the Assistant <br />Fire Chief position. <br />Mr. Thomay reviewed that the Safety Director submitted a letter requesting an Assistant Fire Chief <br />test be administered so he can fill the position. He questioned if the funds were available to <br />
