CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />- MINUTES — AUGUST 18, 2003 <br />COUNCIL'S NORTH CAUCUS ROOM <br />7:00 P.M. <br />ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Thomay called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairman J. Thomay and Commissioner R. Giesser <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director, B. O'Malley, Personnel Director, C. Farver, Fire Chief <br />T. Klecan, and Wastewater Treatment Plant Systems Supervisor B. Binggeli. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated July 21, 2003 and July 30, 2003 have been submitted for <br />approval. <br />Mr. Thomay questioned the secretary as to whether or not she was aware of the Mayor appointing <br />a Civil Service Commissioner. Mrs. Rote indicated that she had met with the Mayor 3 or 4 times <br />regarding positions opened on the Boards and Commissions but was not aware of any actual <br />appointments to date. The Mayor is working on filling open positions on not only Civil Service but <br />also all the boards and Commissions. <br />J. Thomay motion to approve the Civil Service minutes dated July 21, 2003 as written. R. <br />Giesser seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />J. Thomay motion to approve the Special Civil Service minutes dated July 30, 2003 as written. <br />R. Giesser seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />III. CORRESPONDENCE: <br />There were (12) pieces of correspondence received and (19) pieces of correspondence sent out. <br />Mrs. Rote voiced that the Commissioners received two very important memos regarding a <br />Provisional hire of a Building Inspector and a Temporary hiring of an Engineering Inspector for the <br />Engineering Department. Mr. Thomay questioned if Mr. Jesse's memo was a follow up on the <br />memo sent to him regarding the procedures to follow for the provisional hire. Mrs. Rote indicated <br />that Mr. Jesse provided not only a memo stating his intention to hire Provisionally but also a copy <br />of the acknowledgment statement he will have the employee sign. <br />J. Thomay motion to approve correspondence as submitted. R. Giesser seconded the motion, <br />which was unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Continuation of Civil Service addressing Mr. Binggeli's questions and City positions covered <br />by Civil Service: <br />Mr. Thomay indicated that the commission received an opinion from Law Director Dubelko, <br />which has made it clear that the Civil Service does in fact need a classified list. The memo points <br />out that Council is also addressing a list of classified and unclassified positions. Once a list is <br />
