, CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED "TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" -- CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES - OCTOBER 209 2003 COUNCIL'S CHAMBERS 7:00 P.M. I. ROLL CALL: Chairman Thomay called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. PRESENT: Chairman J. Thomay and board members R. Giesser and M. Ubaldi. ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director O'Malley and Civil Service Secretary D. Rote. II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes dated September 25, 2003 have been submitted for approval. J. Thomay motion to approve the September 25, 2003 minutes as written. R Giesser seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. III. CORRESPONDENCE: There were (5) pieces of correspondence received and (1) piece of correspondence sent out. Mr. Thomay announced that before the start of their meeting Mr. Michael Ubaldi was sworn in and appointed to the Civil Service Commission. J. Thomay motion to approve the correspondences as submitted. R Giesser seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. IV. OLD BUSINESS: Conti Mr. Thomay indicated that the commission needs to address which positions classified and unclassified. Both of the issues are related Mr. Binggeli's question and the position of City Animal Warden. The clerk created a chart showing classified and unclassified columns next to each position and reviewing the potions there are many that are not defined from within many of the city departments as being classified or unclassified. The following departments have positions not defined, Springvale Golf, Recreation Center, Finance Department, Data Processing, Senior Center, Bus Department, Engineering Department, Fleet Maintenance, Service Department, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant. There seems to be more appointments not categorized then those that are. Ms. Giesser felt that since there were no time restraints to the question the discussion should be tabled until the new member has an opportunity to review the documentation. Mr. Thomay agreed that the issue should be discussed at a later date as well as the City Animal Warden Position. Mr. Thomay commented that he noticed that newer departments and positions that have taken place in the last 20 years have not properly been. covered/addressed. It has been neglected and the new member should have input in updating the list with the commission. Commissioners need to address Ordinances 2003-87 and 2003-91 pertaining to the position of City's Animal Warden : V. NEW BUSINESS:
