CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL, SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />MINUTES <br />MARCH 15, 2004 <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairwoman Giesser called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairwoman R. Giesser and board members; M. Ubaldi and W. Hohmann. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mayor Musial, Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley and Civil Service Secretary <br />D. Rote. <br />Mayor Musial was present to administer the oath of office to newly appointed Civil Service <br />Commissioner William Hohmann. Mr. Hohmann's term will run from 01/01/04 -12/31/09. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes of March 1, 2004 were submitted for approval. <br />Mr. Ubaldi indicated that on page two the word research should be past tense not present. <br />'e <br />t4 <br />R. Giesser motion to approve the minutes as corrected. M. Ubaldi seconded the motion, <br />which was unanimously approved. <br />M. CORRESPONDENCE: <br />There were 3 items of correspondence received and 3 piece of correspondence sent out. <br />Ms. Giesser reviewed that Mr. Ubaldi cannot attend the Northeast Ohio Civil Service meeting and <br />Mr. Hohmann will try to attend for the commission. The secretary was asked to make sure Mr. <br />Hohmann would be allowed to attend. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Civil Service Handbook <br />Ms. Giesser voiced the first thing should be addressed is the fire and police agility requirements. The <br />commission would like to address the wording for agility test at their next meeting. They would like to have <br />both police and fire chief's present as well as the Safety Director to have their input as to how they would <br />like the sections pertaining to their departments addressed. The commission would also like to know if either <br />chief has a preference as to when the agility requirements are addressed i.e. before written or after written. <br />The secretary was asked.to obtain something in writing indicating North Olmsted is grandfathered into the <br />Tri -C Fire Agility program. The Law Department was asked to research state law to make sure there would <br />be no conflicts with the Civil Service Handbook. <br />Civil Service Commissioners discussed the task of updating or rewriting the Civil Service handbook before <br />the end of the year. The secretary was asked to e-mail Mr. Ubaldi the version of the Civil Service handbook <br />she has on the computer so that he can make sure that it is current with the commissioner's handbooks. Once <br />the commission knows for sure that the computer version of the handbook is accurate, they will start updates <br />and corrections for the book with a working issue. <br />1 <br />
