. . I <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />SPECIAL CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />JUNE 23, 2004 <br />MINUTES <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairwoman Giesser called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairwoman R. Giesser, Board members M. Ubaldi and W. Hohmann <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley, Assistant Fire Chief E. Robertson and <br />Civil Service Secretary D. Rote. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated May 24, 2004 have been submitted for approval. <br />R. Giesser motion to approve the May 24, 2004 Civil Service minutes as written. M. <br />Ubaldi seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. <br />III. CORRESPONDENCE: <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Continued discussion of possible updates to the Civil Service Handbook. <br />Mr. Ubaldi indicated that he went through the stack of paperwork of suggested wording for <br />updates and found that most of them were addressed when the entry-level information was <br />updated. The clerk was asked to check the accuracy of the address to obtain copies of updated <br />State Civil Service Laws which is listed in Chapter 1, section 5 of the North Olmsted Civil <br />Service Handbook. The Assistant Law Director was asked to research State Law regarding <br />filing deadlines for entry-level removals from certified lists. The suggested wording to <br />research; (If such person fails to submit a written request, for a hearing that is received by the <br />commission within 14 days of notification, fails to appears for a hearing, or, upon being heard, <br />fails to satisfy the commission that reason for disqualification does not exist his/her name shall <br />be removed from eligible list). The Civil Service commissioner's will address Rules 3, 4, 5, 6, <br />7 and 8 for possible updates or changes for promotional exam procedures. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />1. Establish date Firefighter/Paramedic examination will be conducted. <br />2. Establish date to submit ads for Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic examination. <br />3. Establish deadline to file completed application packets <br />4. Establish date for Civil Service meeting to examine completed application packets. <br />5. Establish who will administrator the examination and who will be monitors. <br />The commissioners reviewed possible dates for the Entry -Level test with the Assistant Fire <br />Chief and clerk. Ads were reviewed again, deadline dates were discussed and it was decided <br />that the commission would choose the administrator of the test at their July meeting. Mr. <br />O'Malley reviewed that the Law department researched the issue of fee waivers and could not <br />
