CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE .COMMISSION MEETING <br />MAYOR'S CONFERENCE ROOM <br />SEPTEMBER 139 2004 <br />MINUTES <br />1. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairwoman Giesser called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. <br />PRESENT: Chairwoman R. Giesser, Board members M. Ubaldi and W. Hohmann. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley, Safety Director R. Jesse, Fire Chief T. <br />Klecan, and Civil Service Secretary D. Rote. <br />GUEST SPEAKERS: Mrs. Pat Ramsey, with Ramsey & Associates, and Mr. Dale Danczak, <br />with Personnel Selection Services. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated July 19, 2004 and August 16, 2004 have been submitted for <br />approval. <br />R. Giesser moved to approve the July 19, 2004 and August 16, 2004 Civil Service minutes <br />as written. M. Ubaldi seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. <br />HI. CORRESPONDENCE: <br />There were 3 items of correspondence received and 1 piece of correspondence sent out. <br />AV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Civil Service Handbook police entry-level qualifications <br />The commissioners discussed Rule II section 3 (A 2.) regarding part of the wording they had <br />requested an explanation of the Police Chief on. The secretary indicated that the Police Chief <br />was not sure how or why the wording regarding a review board was in the handbook and <br />suggested that it be removed. <br />M. Giesser moved to change Rule H section 3 (A 2.), the sentence will end after the word <br />objects and that in the first part of that sentence a grammatical correction should be "an" <br />not "and". W. Hohmann seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />Commissioners discussed clarifying and making changes to the Civil Service handbook in Rule <br />5 section 1 A to make sure there is no misunderstanding as to what constitutes extra credit for <br />active military credit and how it is calculated. <br />M. Ubaldi moved to make the following changes to the Civil Service Handbook; Rule 5 <br />section 1 A first sentence remove or other proof of satisfactory service and in parentheses <br />place DD -214 or equivalent. Include active military in section A once and twice in section <br />B. In Rule Four section 3 place the word final before the word score. W. Hohmann <br />seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />
