V. NEW BUSINESS:
Hearings for Determination of Disqualification and Removal from Firefighter Eligible List Civil
Service Handbook Rule Il, Section 8b and Rule VII, Section 8j.
Mrs. Giesser reviewed that the clerk only received 5 agility certifications since the commissions letters
were sent to those candidates who had not submitted their certification. The deadline for receiving the
agility certifications was November 15, 2004, and no candidates are present.
R. Giesser moved to remove the 18 names from the attached list from the certified list of eligible
fire candidates for the reason that the candidates failed to submit documentation showing they
passed the physical agility test within 60 days of September 13, 2004, pursuant to Rule II section
8 subsection (A) and Rule VII section 8 subsection (J), furthermore, the rankings of the
candidates remaining on the list is to be adjusted as appropriate. W. Hohmann seconded the
motion, which was unanimously approved.
Mrs. Giesser questioned if the commission wanted to send letters to those candidates being removed
and new letters informing candidates how they are now ranked. The board decided that the clerk was
to release the updated certified list to the appointing authority and post the new rankings. No letters
will be sent out.
Commissioners decided to cancel their December 20, 2004 meeting due to the holiday season. The
proposed meeting dates for 2005 are to be adopted with the following changes: January meeting is to
be held Monday, January 24, 2005 and the February meeting will be moved to Monday, February 28,
2005 to work around holidays those months.
Chairwoman Giesser advised the clerk to work with the Assistant Law Director regarding candidate
Bryan Carney's DD 2-14 not showing the type of discharge and other information found on other DD
2-14's received.
Mr. O'Malley advised the board that there is an ordinance going before Council addressing the Civil
Service secretarial duties going to the Personnel department. He believes that it has to do with the
restructuring of duties associated with the Planning Department and the Clerk of Commission position
now under the Planner. He advised that the commission could request a budget and hire a secretary of
their choice if they choose. The clerk advised the commissioners that the changes were at her request,
as her work load of overseeing 7 boards and commissions is overwhelming and taking its toll on her.
Mr. Ubaldi asked for more information regarding what is being suggested. Mr. O'Malley suggested
that the commission can ask for more information or submit questions on what is taking place. He
advised that the commission does not answer to management or the union as they are an independent
body. The Commissioners were encouraged to attend those Council meetings addressing the issue so
they could be a part of the decision. The clerk assured the board that she would be willing to work or
assist whoever is their secretary.
VI. ADJOURNMENT:
Charwoman Giesser moved to adjourn the Civil Service meeting. W.
