Michael Lewis, a candidate on the Entry -Level Firefighter Eligible List, has sent correspondence to
the Commission regarding his new address. The secretary will change his address.
The Law Department prepared a draft of proposed changes to the Civil Service Rules and
Regulations handbook. A charter provision was recently amended to enable the Civil Service
Commission to adopt rules of its own that may deviate from State law. State law is guidance for the
Civil Service Commission to follow. Some of the recommendations were not entirely from the
changes in the State code. Some of them were circumstances that have been reviewed or noted.
Suggestions were made to circulate the draft proposal to the directors and inviting them to attend
the September meeting; the Law Department's presentation of the draft; reviewing the rules in
sections with a goal to be completed by the end of the year. If any director cannot attend the
meeting, written comments are welcomed. A general discussion followed regarding the minimum
amount of candidates to test; job security (the Commission cannot safe guard a position due to the
fact that a position maybe eliminated by the administration); certify names within a window of an
appointment.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
V. NEW BUSINESS:
Removal of Christopher Holloway's Name from the Entry -Level Firefighters Eligible List
The Commission received a request to remove Christopher Holloway's name from the Entry -Level
Firefighters Eligible List.
Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to remove Christopher Holloway's name from the Entry -Level
Firefighters Eligible List. Mr. Hohmann seconded the motion and unanimously approved.
There are four (4) candidates certified for the Weisbarth vacancy. The Commission has the option
to certify the fifth candidate and a general discussion followed regarding not to certify a fifth
candidate; candidates not responding.
Mr. Ubaldi made a motion to certify the name of Daniel Root for Weisbarth vacancy. Mr.
Hohmann seconded the motion. Roll call on the motion: B. Hohmann; yes, K. Zolar; no, M.
Ubaldi; yes. Motion carried.
Review Building Inspector Applications
A general discussion commenced regarding the applications for Building Inspector. One (1)
applicant sent in a personal check; two (2) applicants need confirmation for their Military extra
credit points; one (1) applicant did not complete the application. Mr. Ubaldi reviewed each
application in question. Sean Kelly has received 2.5 Military extra credit points; David Jonas'
application was rejected due to a personal check and his check will be returned to him; David Frolo
received 1.5 points for Military extra credit; Jeffrey Rettberg's application was incomplete because
he did not complete question number 6, "Do you claim Military credit" and number 7, "Do you
claim Education credit"; this information is non essential to take the examination, therefore the
Commission decided to accept his application.
