CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES OF APRIL 17, 2019 5:30PM ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. Present: Keith Behrendt, Jackie Chavez -Anderson, Sue Collander, Wilma Kepperley, Annie Kilbane, Stephanie Procter, Leah Rogalski-Davis, Laura Simna Absent: Janelle Zauner Staff. Planner James Aspery REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES Annie requested that Laura Simna be reflected as present at the March 20th meeting, as she arrived late and was incorrectly labeled as absent. Leah moved to approve the Arts Commission minutes of March 20, 2019 as amended, seconded by Jackie, motion passed unanimously. REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES Yoza in the Park Leah shared that approximately 60 people attended at the April 6th event in the Community Cabin, according to Jackie's count. Keith asked if attendees were able fit into the space, with Leah noting that the space has accommodated over 70 people in past events. The group hoped that the May 4th event will be held outside to boost attendance and fit the event name better. Mayor's Art Show I March 25 Leah thanked those members who attended and thanked Sue for taking pictures and purchasing a pastry tray on short notice. Annie was surprised at how many students did not attend, noting that about half of the students who were displaying artwork did not attend due to other activities happening at the same time. Leah said that she felt the event was weak compared to what it could be. Wilma said she did not hear anything from Becker's and expressed her disappointment that they left the Commission in a difficult situation regarding pastries. The group reviewed event improvement ideas compiled by Kim and Jackie. A subcommittee consisting of Leah, Wilma, Annie, Sue and Stephanie was formed to work on incorporating new ideas into the 2020 event. Earth Fair I April 28 Leah went over the final event details before the event. Stephanie confirmed that the Friendship APL is likely not coming and that Trash Talkers have been unresponsive, so they can be scratched. Leah suggested the Rescue Inn; Stephanie will reach out. Leah said the vendors are all set and noted the addition of a mulch vendor. James said a SITES student will have a table with information on upcycling practices and will use the Celebrate North Olmsted tent. Jackie is unsure if the NOHS Afterprom committee will attend. The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District will be distributing their own flyers sharing details on their upcoming three-part recycling series to be held at City Hall this summer. Leah suggested that they conduct a workshop at Earth Fair next year. The Westside Flea will be collecting books for the Little Free
