was agreed that park lighting is a distinct consideration that can be incorporated into a theme
once it is determined, as a decorating theme and lighting installations are not mutually exclusive.
After discussing the merits and general concept behind of each theme, it was agreed that
"Hometown Holidays" and "A Christmas Story" would combined into one decoration theme
centered highlighting the nostalgia of holidays. Annie, Laura and Sue agreed to serve on the
decoration committee and shape the theme into a cohesive vision that can be executed this year.
NEW BUSINESS
Vendor and Contracting Procedures
James reviewed the handout and explained different scenarios that would require certain
paperwork, such as any vendor working with animals, prepared food or anything activities
involving risk. Any vendor that is being paid by the City for their goods or services needs to be a
registered vendor, although they would not always require insurance documentation. Stephanie
asked about animal organizations that are not being paid but are still bringing live animals for
adoption to Commission events. James said they would not need to be a registered vendor in that
case, but an insurance certificate is still required due to the risk involved with live animals
interacting with the public. Members should to refer to the reference guide and talk to City staff
before contacting potential vendors to make sure that they are including the full scope of
required information from the initial point of contact.
N.O. Magazine Photo Contest I October
James requested that group think of creative photo contest themes ahead of the North Olmsted
magazine release in October. The group inquired about the guidelines, prize, judging format and
whether or not the Commission would be running the contest. James shared that he did not know
any specific guidelines, and the prize would be inclusion in the magazine when it is released in
October. The Commission would not be responsible for running the contest. He will confirm any
guidelines and how the photos are judged, although judging has typically been done by the
editorial staff from the magazine. This request is focused on gathering general ideas.
Keith asked if they need to be images, or if they could be other media types such as drawings or
paintings. Keith suggested the idea for a school artwork feature or a theme highlighting the
quality of life in North Olmsted that prompts people to share their favorite parts of living in,
working in or visiting North Olmsted. Sue suggested that if the theme was general images from
around North Olmsted, they could be grouped by categories such as nature, architecture, people
and so on. James shared that the magazine's theme will focus on the people of North Olmsted,
and asked members to think of people who are deserving of recognition.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:52 p.m.
Le Rog ski -Davis, Chair
Approved: S% I S/ Z 0 1 9
James Aspery, Planner
