research to confirm their build date. Mr. Neville stated that the research takes up a large amount
of time and is inclined to save any follow up research until a later date when his schedule is more
flexible. Mr. Morse asked if the 281 properties in the audit cover all properties researched as part
of the program. Mr. Aspery confirmed that the audit data was compiled from all research
provided by members.
Members continued discussion on how home research takes time and effort to conduct,
especially if site visits are required to the homes or archives. Mr. Kearney and Mr. Morse stated
that they would be willing to take a field trip to conduct follow-up research at the County
Archives in Cleveland. Ms. Cardarelli said that a thorough list of all parcels should be prepared
before visiting the archives, with Mr. Morse adding that addresses and family names also assist
in researching. Ms. Cardarelli suggested that if the group decides to pursue this trip, carpooling
would be a wise choice. Mr. Kearney will work with staff to organize a trip to the County
Archives. Based on this, it was agreed that outreach to property owners would be suspended until
this research is conducted, compiled and presented to the Commission at a later date.
Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Ms. Cardarelli, to suspend community outreach for the
Centennial Home Recognition Program until further research is conducted, motion passed
7-0.
Historic District Map
Mr. Dubowski explained the committee's work in modifying the current historic district
boundaries and recommended approval of Chapter 165 ordinance in addition to the committee's
evaluation of survey of district modification. Mr. Schumann, Mr. O'Malley and Mr. Aspery
explained that a vote to approve Chapter 165 is not necessary since this ordinance took effect in
December. Mr. Schumann stated that the committee is only proposing to amend current
boundaries already within the district, not adding new parcels. Mr. Aspery added that the
Division of Engineering will be preparing an updated map once the committee makes a final
decision on the boundaries to be altered. Mr. O'Malley stated that once the initial study and
evaluation has been approved by the Commission, the committee will prepare a report on the
changes in and around the district including history, site maps, survey results and any other
information pertinent to the recommendation.
Mr. Neville moved, seconded by Mr. Schumann, to accept the proposed Butternut Ridge
Historic District map modification for study and evaluation, motion passed 7-0.
Butternut Ridze Pocket Park
Mr. Aspery provided an overview of the Gateways Plan approved in 2018, which included a
pocket park near the I-480 overpass as one of several enhancements within the historic district.
Kiwanis of North Olmsted has approved the donation of a parcel to the City for development of
this park. As project planning begins this year, it is important for the Commission to have
members on the steering committee. Mr. Schumann and Ms. Egan -Reeves volunteered to serve
on the committee. Mr. O'Malley commended the work that Planning Department staff has put
into researching the feasibility of this project and is excited to see how the project progresses.
