CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF JULY 17, 2019
6:30PM
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Jackie Chavez -Anderson, Sue Collander, Suzie Patton, Stephanie Procter, Leah
Rogalski-Davis, Laura Simna, Janelle Zauner
Absent: Keith Behrendt, Wilma Kepperley, Annie Kilbane
Staff: Planner James Aspery
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Jackie moved to approve the Arts Commission minutes of June 19, 2019, seconded by Stephanie,
motion passed unanimously.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES
Yoga in the Park
Jackie shared that 50 people signed into the class, with a few more joining after the class had
started. She said that this event is the best opportunity for members to interact directly with the
community, so this attendance number is ideal. Leah noted the increased turnout from previous
events, despite the intense sun and heat. Jackie added that she will be unavailable for the
September class, but more members should attend classes to assist with check-in, set up and tear
down so that the same members are not burdened every month. Leah suggested that future events
be shared via the new Parks & Recreation text message alert system.
Party in the Park I July 27
The group reviewed the final details for the upcoming event and signed up for volunteer shifts to
work the ID table and bar area. Leah confirmed that all bands and food vendors are booked.
Food trucks will be set up along the outfield far away from the stage. James shared that Fat
Head's will provide four types of beer, with keg pricing to be confirmed in the near future.
Pricing may not be as low as last year, but it is also not expected to drastically increase. Jackie
reminded the group that no tips were collected last year, as they were not accepted by
Commission members. It was agreed by all that the ID tent will be set up near the sidewalk
entrance closest to the Gazebo. Picnic tables will be placed in the beer garden area. Jackie asked
why stamps are being used in lieu of wristbands, with Sue stating that it was to reduce waste.
James will bring backup wristbands in case the stamps do not work as intended. Lanyards will be
provided to identify volunteers.
Mayor's Art Show
Sue provided an update on the event planning. The event is tentatively planned for February
2020 but is still in need of a name. The idea is still to make the event more of a community
showcase highlighting student artists in line with a traditional gallery opening event. Old Town
Hall is still the most likely venue, based on the committee's tour of the space. Another
