committee meeting will be scheduled this summer to establish more firm details.
Holiday Decorations
James and Sue shared notes from the committee's July 15th meeting at North Olmsted Park. The
meeting was beneficial to establish the exact areas that will be illuminated and decorated,
including the Garden Club landscaped area, trees surrounding the Veterans Park and the script
North Olmsted bushes. Sue suggested using solar powered lighting wherever possible to avoid a
tangle of extension cords around the park. Now that the decoration areas have been identified
and a general vision has been established for the front of the park, the committee will put
together a complete list of all lighting and decoration supplies to be purchased. Decorations and
lighting will be installed the week after Thanksgiving and remain up through the end of the year.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
City Hall Art Gallery
The group reviewed the updated application and waiver forms. James described the changes to
the selection process and review criteria. Leah commented that the changes reflect the discussion
from several months ago and provide a clearer explanation of how each artist's application will
be reviewed by the Commission. Jackie moved to approve the revised application materials,
seconded by Sue, motion passed unanimously.
Friday Niaht Mics I September 6
Leah asked the group what types of food they would like to see at the upcoming open mic night
event. Jackie suggested some sort of late -summer skewers or a caramel apple bar. Leah broached
the idea of a food truck and it was noted the turnout may not make for high sales. Suzie asked if
Springvale could offer a food menu for guests to order from, with James confirming that they
would not. Springvale offers several pre-set menus consisting of sandwich platters and salads
that are based on a per -guest price. Janelle noted that the 7:30-10:00 PM timeframe would allow
for people to eat dinner before coming to the event and suggested focusing on table snacks like
kettle corn. The group agreed to pursue a caramel apple bar and kettle corn as snack options.
James confirmed that the Clubhouse is available in the event of rain and that an outdoor bar
would cost $25 per hour to pay for an additional staff member. The emcee and sound
professional is confirmed, so James and Laura will work on getting the call to artists out in the
coming weeks so that performers can be confirmed well ahead of the event. Leah will work on
creating event information online and sharing it widely to build the audience. Commission
members should widely share the event to their networks either via social media or other ways.
James and Jackie will work together to make a small event handout to distribute to guests at the
Party in the Park.
Scavenizer Hunt
Stephanie reviewed her event outline and asked the group for input on the name, date range and
featured locations. It was agreed by all that the hunt will be held in September and October. The
contest will utilize online posts and consist of 20 locations around the city with a prize after
visiting 10 locations. Prize ideas include a keychain or similar North Olmsted branded
merchandise. Events and activities around the city will also be featured, such as farmers markets,
yoga classes and similar events. Suzie provided Stephanie with a list of notable places along
Lorain Road to add to her list. Stephanie asked the group to send her any other locations ideas as
