She is hoping to set up a committee
meeting in July or August to start the planning process. She was contacted by someone interested
in donating money for a bench. The sign would need to be
appropriate for the cemetery and be well -researched prior to installation. Ms. Lieber suggested
members work with their teacher to see what research they have done. The request came through
the Mayor's office and the timing was not ideal since school just ended. Mr. Schumann said
there was an area that was set aside for African-Americans which was used from what he
remembers about Gary Porter's research. He will reach out to Mr. Porter to see what info he may
have and Ms. Lieber will contact the teacher. Mr. Schumann said in the 1840s there were
African-Americans who owned farms in North Olmsted. Mr. Neville said the African-Americans
would have been part of the society, not just as hired help.
Historic District Design Guidelines
Ms. Lieber said the kickoff committee meeting was in May and the team has come up with goals
for the project. During the meeting, the consultants mentioned the district would be a great
contender for National Register Historic District nomination.
