CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF DECEMBER 18, 2019
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Stephanie Procter, Sue Collander, Suzie Patton, Laura Simna, Janelle Zauner-Hoffart,
Wilma Kepperley, Jackie Chavez -Anderson, Annie Kilbane, Leah Rogalski-Davis, Keith
Behrendt
Staff. Planning Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant Nicole Rambo -Ackerman
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Janelle moved, seconded by Stephanie, to approve the meeting minutes of November 20,
2019, motion passed unanimously.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES
North Olmsted Noel
Kim mentioned that the NOHS Eaglets are interested in participating in the event next year
which may be a good change of pace from the Arlene Cassara Dance Studio performance. Leah
thought the dancing was good but is concerned about the event becoming stale if some elements
are not changed. More chairs needed to be added before the event started but the dancers and
their families did not seem to stay for the event. The face painter brought a friend to help which
helped keep the line down. Kim thought the Eagles Nest Theater performance may have been
better inside since there weren't many people outside to watch them. The Eagles Nest Theater
students made excellent elves to help with the line for Santa and were interacting well with the
children. Special Edition did a great job despite the wind blowing the smoke from the bonfire in
their direction. Discussion about how to deal with the bonfire in the future, potentially use burn
barrels or move Special Edition inside. The face painter should have filled out a vendor
application since they were selling merchandise which should be clarified next year. Danimal
Clown got great reviews and had seasonal balloon options to choose from. The magician did a
great job but needs to wear clothes to stand out from the crowd. Keith helped out greatly by
setting the sound equipment up and running the stage in the Cabin.
Pierogi Pantry did well and Sauced did slightly better than the year before. Crooked Kettle did
not have many sales but they need to stay outside. Homemade by Hannah sold out and Chocolate
Harmony and the Athletic Boosters did well. Nicole pointed out that the Pierogi Pantry was very
difficult to get paperwork from and showed up three hours before the event since they had the
time wrong. Discussion about enforcing the vendor application deadline in the future.
Leah wants to make sure the event does not get stale and that elements are changing to keep
people interested in coming back. Kim said Parks and Rec will not continue to host Santa Skate
and this may be a good opportunity to partner with them for Noel to help rejuvenate events by
combining resources. Discussion about changing the event to Saturday instead of Sunday so it
does not conflict with the Cleveland Browns games.
