The selfie station looked nice but there may have been issues with the Snapchat filter. There was
not much need for the Boy Scouts to help with the fire this year and the NOFD had to come
extinguish the fire after the event was over. Ken Srail's photography was very good but just a
few were shared on Facebook. Kim asked the Commission to think about ways to use the rest of
the photos and she will add more to the Commission's webpage. Some of the community groups
ran out of craft supplies and left early which the Commission did not like. Wilma thought it was
difficult to determine how many crafts the groups should bring since we thought 100 would
cover the entire event but it was not enough. Should the Commission have crafts on hand in case
groups run out of supplies at the next event?
The gazebo and area around the Senior Center looked very nice. Kim suggested the Commission
not try to decorate the rest of the park next year since no one on the Commission has experience
doing such a large project and this year's attempt fell short of the vision. Jackie suggested using
a professional company next year if the Commission is still interested in decorating.
More yard signs should be printed for next year. Keith suggested having large, one -word
descriptions of the event to put along a popular stretch of Lorain Road to catch people's
attention. A lot of programs were left over since twice as many were printed out due to a
shipping issue. The programs were difficult to hand out since people entered the event from
multiple directions. The large posters seemed to work well. Kim suggested having more table top
signage to help direct people instead of trying to pass out programs. Leah thought the size of the
crowd was similar to last year. The hot chocolate station ran out of hot chocolate and more had
to be purchased during the event. The Commission thought having a person dedicated to making
hot chocolate was very helpful. Some hot chocolate was spilled on the quilt which will need to
be dry-cleaned. Jackie suggested doing a Santa Fun Run or something similar to include with the
event. Kim thought it would be a good addition if the walking path project is complete to
decrease complexity of the event since sidewalks are not currently installed all around the park.
Discussion about possible activities to include in the event, such as a scavenger hunt or stations
around the park for families to visit. The community groups would appreciate a loading and
unloading zone since parking space is limited near the Cabin. Discussion about potentially
moving the event to Springvale.
City Hall Art Gallery
The Commission reviewed the artwork submitted by Curtis Avant. He mentioned that he will
bring five framed prints for the gallery. Discussion whether five pieces would be sufficient for a
stand alone gallery. The Commission discussed displaying his artwork on the main floor of City
Hall and continuing to display Robert Parry's work on the second floor. Nicole will reach out to
Mr. Avant to see if he has more prints available.
Jackie moved, seconded by Wilma, to approve the City Hall Art Gallery application from
Curtis Avant for January 2020, motion passed 10-0.
Yoga+
Leah confirmed that January's vendors will be Sage Aromatique and Leah Ackim but more
would be ideal. February's event will have a local honey vendor in addition to Jackie presenting
on Ayurveda. Laura Bender will bring meditation jewelry and mala beads. Jackie reached out to
