existing garage needs to be completely rebuilt with a new foundation and is designed to match
the house.
Ms. Lieber thought the structure is designed well but thought the variance request is significant.
She asked if there is any intent for converting the second floor into livable space which is not
permitted. Ms. Drellishak said there is no intention to turn it into living space and it would be
used for storage of her collections and vehicle parts. Ms. Corbo added that the second level will
not be finished. Ms. Drellishak said the garage would be built in the same footprint as the
existing structure but the existing foundation must be redone. Ms. Patton asked about the current
size, Ms. Corbo said the proposed building is the same length but four feet wider than the
existing garage. Mr. Papotto asked if the garage would be used for commercial activity, Ms.
Drellishak said it would not be. Ms. Drellishak would not use the home as a rental if her family
no longer lives there and will continue to maintain the home and structure as long as they own it.
Mr. Mackey thought the new garage would enhance the look of the neighborhood and was not
concerned about the vacant lot and commercial properties being affected by it. Mr. Papotto
thought the variance requested is large but the mounds and fence around Target would decrease
the visibility of it, Mr. Rahm agreed.
Mr. Mackey moved, seconded by Mr. Rahm, to grant the following variances for 20-17085;
Lurleen & Gerald Drellishak; 4748 Columbia Road:
1. A 1,248 s.f. variance for the area of a garage; code limits garages to 750 s.L total,
applicant requests 1,998 s.f. (1,056 s.f. first floor plus 942 s.f. second floor), Section
1135.02(B)(1)(a).
2. A 1 ft. variance for the height of a garage; code limits garages to 15 ft., applicant
requests 16 ft., Section 1135.02(B)(1)(b).
Motion passed 4-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
Sign Code Update
The changes will be presented to City Council this week.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Rahm moved, seconded by Ms. Patton, to excuse the absence of Mr. Allain, motion
passed 4-0.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
MElW W
=-
Aob '.•• •
Approved: (I I g1ZUZ O
Nicole R -Ackerman, Administrative
Assistant
