BUILDING & ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MINUTES FOR OCTOBER 5, 2020
ROLL CALL
Chairman Allain called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm via online public meeting.
Present: Eric Allain, Bob Papotto, Suzie Patton, Dan Rahm, Ralph Mackey
Staff: Law Director Michael Gareau, Jr., Planning Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant
Nicole Rambo -Ackerman
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Mackey, to approve the Building & Zoning Board of
Appeals minutes of September 14, 2020, motion passed 5-0.
RESIDENTIAL APPEALS AND REQUESTS
20-17513; Antonio & Nikki Brunello; 25417 Butternut Ridge Road
Representatives: Antonio & Nikki Brunello, owners; Robert Sharp, 25407 Butternut Ridge Road
Proposal consists of a new swimming pool. Property is zoned A -One Family Residence.
1. A 4 ft. variance for side yard setback of a swimming pool; code requires 10 ft., applicant
shows 6 ft., Section 1135.02(I).
The applicant proposes to construct a swimming pool in the rear yard six feet off the side
property line and if the code requirement for side yard setback is ten feet. Mr. Brunello said the
usable width of the yard is not 70 feet because of existing trees. The family uses the backyard
often and installing the pool closer to the side would give more space to play. They would like to
install a 27 -foot pool which will take up a large amount of the yard. The electrical line would
also be closer to the fence. Ms. Lieber said the pool could meet the code requirements but the
requested variance is small. The email from Frances Heil received on September 30, 2020 was
read. Mr. Sharp did not object to the proposed location and thought it was a good idea to have
more free space in the yard for the family. Mr. Papotto did not think a hardship was presented,
but appreciated the applicant's concerns about the yard being taken up. Mr. Allain thought the
narrow yard was the hardship.
Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Mackey, to approve the following variance for 20-
17513; Antonio & Nikki Brunello; 25417 Butternut Ridge Road:
1.
