There would be two routes for approval, one for public property requested by the Commission
and another for private property. The goal was to distinguish approval of art from commercial
signage. Public art may draw extra visitors so neighboring property owners would be notified of
the proposal. Kim suggested having a super majority of the Commission to approve artwork in
case it is controversial. Some art may be displayed temporarily so a timeline for removal is
requested. If the approved public art goes into disrepair, a requirement for maintenance or
removal is included. Bryan added that the goal was to keep the approval process as simple as
possible while giving the Commission the chance to ensure art is appropriate for the community.
A revised guide will be sent for final review and an application will be created.
Nicole has reached out to the owner of Cocky's Bagels regarding their mural proposal. Property
owner approval of the concept has been requested before a committee meeting will be scheduled.
Butternut Ridge Pocket Park
The CDSG project deadline has been extended to the end of July 2021 and the public art is
expected to be installed in mid-May. The artist said he wants this project to be his "masterpiece"
so the project should be made well. Three quotes for the permanent sign has been received for a
sign no more than 12 square feet and five feet high. The committee will meet again to approve
the sign. Leah described the positive feedback about the park that she saw in one of the North
Olmsted Facebook groups. Kim asked the city forester to remove the dead tree next to the park
and it should be removed once the conditions are better.
Pollinator Garden
The Garden Club reached out to see if a pollinator garden could be installed on city property. A
kit from the Cleveland Botanical Garden would cost about $170. The full scope of the project
needs to be determined prior to agreeing to the partnership. The location is still to be determined
but Nicole will create a short list of options for the Commission to look at.
Snow Art Contest
With the recent snowstorm, the contest was announced and an entry was received just hours
later. The winner will be announced at the beginning of March.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Keith Behrendt, Vice Chair
Approved: 2 17 zj
Nicole Rambo -Ackerman, Administrative
Assistant
