1. A 10 sq. ft. variance for size of a storage building, code permits 150 sq. ft., applicant
shows 160 sq. ft., Section 1135.02(C)(2).
Motion passed 4-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
Sian Code Update
Ms. Lieber reviewed the major changes to the sign code. The goal was to make the application of
signage more flexible for businesses without increasing the overall amount of permitted signage.
The height and square footage limit was removed to allow square footage based only on the
lineal footage of building frontage. The business can use the signage allowance in any they
would like based on their needs, which should reduce the amount of variances requested. Two
types of signs were added: drive-through facility signs and driveway signs. Drive-through
facility signs include clearance bars, menu signage, speaker boxes and other signage needed for
drive-throughs. Driveway signs are permitted for drive-throughs and businesses with limited
access. The content of the new signage will not be reviewed but allows additional signage for
specific property uses. Limited digital sign face will be permitted for ground and drive-through
facility signs. Ground sign digital messaging can be no more than 50% of the sign and is limited
to one color copy on a dark background and cannot change more than four times per day.
Daytime and nighttime illumination standards were included to make sure they do not become a
nuisance to neighboring properties. The limit of signage per lot was removed because it was
difficult and burdensome for plaza tenants and staff to calculate. A temporary sign policy was
also implemented for businesses to use during the pandemic but will expire once the state
limitations are over. Mr. Papotto thought the changes will help the community and businesses
and Mr. Allain thanked staff for their hard work getting the update completed.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Mackey, to excuse the absence of Mr. Rahm, motion
passed 4-0.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
Enc Allain, C)air
Approved: 3I1 I ?A
II
Nicole Rambo -Ackerman, Administrative
Assistant
