ARTS COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MINUTES OF DECEMBER 16, 2020
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:38 p.m. via online public meeting.
Present: Sue Collander, Keith Behrendt, Leah Rogalski-Davis, Janelle Zauner-Hoffart, Laura
Simna (arrived during upcoming events discussion)
Absent: Stephanie Procter, Jackie Chavez -Anderson, Bryan O'Malley, Wilma Kepperley
Staff. Planning Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant Nicole Rambo -Ackerman
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Keith moved, seconded by Laura, to approve the Arts Commission minutes of November
18, 2020, motion passed 5-0.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES
Butternut Ridge Pocket Park
Kim said the site construction is done. The artwork is being manufactured now and will be
installed in the spring when the weather allows. The construction sign will remain up until the
park is complete. There is an issue with a dead tree near the property line of the park that may be
a potential safety risk and staff is resolving the issue. There have been requests from the
community about where to park. Since this was designed to be a local neighborhood park that
would be walked or biked to, parking was not included.
Light Up the Nights
The webpage with the google map was shared on December 14 and had been viewed 1,294 times
by the meeting time. A reminder post asking which property is the community's favorite will be
posted to encourage more participation.
Hug in a Mug at St. Richard Apartments
The gift bags will be assembled on December 17 and dropped off at St. Richards December 21.
Girl Scout Troop #71032 made cards and decorated the bags. Sue made ornaments for the bags
and small jars of honey were donated by Jule's Bzzz Elixir. Crocheted snowman pins were
donated and will be included with other snacks and treats. The gift bags will be shared on social
media. Kim thought this was a good opportunity to use art to bring joy to the low-income
seniors.
Mayor's Art Show
Kim and Nicole spoke with the high school art teachers and they are eager to do something with
their students. During the pandemic, art has been a creative outlet for the students. The 2021 art
show will be a virtual art gallery similar to the Veterans Art Gallery. There will be
approximately the same number of pieces as the 2020 event. Teachers will provide photos of the
art by February. The teachers would like to highlight the senior artists so a photo and short
biography of each will be included. The gallery will be shared online the first two weeks of
